Overview

Hi everyone! I'm Francesca, and I manage the science communication associates here at BioRender. Thank you for joining us today! I'm excited to be here with all of you from around the world. In this session, we'll be discussing tips for creating better figures for your research posters.

Understanding BioRender Icons and Templates

To start, let's review the basics. BioRender icons are like building blocks that you can use to create figures for your poster. We have over 45,000 different icons across various fields, including virology, nucleic acid sequencing, cardiology, and anatomy, among others. In addition, we have completed templates that you can use and edit as necessary to create your final figures.

Tips for Better Poster Figures

Now, let's dive into some tips for creating better figures for your research posters.

Tip 1: Be Concise and Direct

Remember, your audience will only have a few minutes to look at your poster, so it's important to be direct and concise in your figures. Avoid including unnecessary details that don't support your main story. Keep your figures simple and direct, so that your audience can quickly understand the key message.

Tip 2: Follow Simple Compositions

When creating figures, it's important to follow simple compositions that are easy for your audience to follow. Unidirectional, up-to-down, cyclical, and Z-shaped compositions are some standard compositions that you can use. Make sure your figure follows a clear and simple path.

Tip 3: Use Color Sparingly

Using colors strategically can help you highlight important parts of your figure, but it's important to use them sparingly. Avoid overly saturated colors and images, as they can be overwhelming for your audience. Instead, use colors to highlight specific areas or focal points in your figure.

Tip 4: Pay Attention to the Hierarchy of Text and Images

The hierarchy of text and images is also an important consideration when creating your figures. Use bold and larger text to draw your audience's eyes to important parts of your figure, and organize your figure in a clear and simple hierarchy.

Finally, remember to have fun and be proud of your work! You've worked hard on your research and poster, so don't forget to make connections and network at conferences. I hope these tips help you create better figures for your research posters. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reach out. Thank you for joining us today!
